Dear Mr McMurtrie:
I cannot truly thank you enough for your great kindness in "squeezing out" a copy of the Jenson book, which reached me in excellent state the other day. It has so much historical interest and so much more human appeal as to make its long neglect a real mystery. In any event it is a great achievement for you, and I congratulate you upon the publication of a document of such great intrinsic interest, which at the same time offers the perfect opportunity for bringing out a type bearing Jenson's name.
The type, while of lighter character than its famous prototype, shows up to excellent advantage on the page, imparting a cheerful atmospheric tint that will prove of great utility in display matter. In the smaller sizes it should make a beautiful book type.
As to the Jenson document itself, it gave me fresh proof of the master's reverence for his tools and for his fellow worker. The very soul of the craftsman is revealed in the paragraph disposing of the punches, where the testator provides that "Messer Peter Ugelleymer, his dearest friend, shall have them. . . and Messer Peter cannot be held to give or pay aught for these same punches unless it shall so please him of his generosity." Reading these lines, who can doubt that Master Nicolas entered the heaven of his dearest desire?
I must thank you again for making me a privilege spectator of certain important aspects of Jenson's life and death.
Very sincerely

Dear Mr. McMurtrie:
"The Will of the Late Nicolas Jenson" arrived yesterday. May I express my appreciation of your thoughtfulness in sending me a copy? Nothing is quite so intriguing to me as a beautiful example of graphic art. In your publication, the combination of type, paper, and binding form an harmonious whole with the subject selected. You have expressed a perfect congeniality.
The new type has the peculiar combination of clear beauty and a rugged strength. The vigor, I believe, lies in its strong, definite capitals and angular serifs and distinctive punctuation points.
Thanking you again,
Cordially yours,
Josephine Clancey Wice.
